YHVH IS ECHAD

APPENDIX TO STATEMENT OF FAITH
THE 13 PRINCIPLES OF A MESSIANIC BELIEVER
PRINCIPLE NO. 5



YHVH IS ECHAD:  I believe the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the God of Israel, is ECHAD or אֶחָֽד. As we say in the Shema, "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE." YHVH is ECHAD, a unity of three persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. ECHAD is a unified oneness, a composite unity, known as The Holy Trinity by all disciples of Yeshua.  And Yeshua is the Son who descended from Heaven, sent by the Father whose Presence is eternal and without form.  Yeshua is the Word made flesh who came to dwell among us about 2000 years ago.  Yeshua was with YHVH in the beginning and is the Aleph and the Tav, (the first and last letter of the Hebrew alphabet), the beginning and the end.  He died for our sins and rose three days later.  Forty days later, he ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us as our High Priest and Mediator in the Tabernacle of Heaven.  Ten days later, He sent the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to speak the truth and to testify about Him to His faithful ones on Earth.

THE 13 PRINCIPLES OF FAITH
OF A MESSIANIC BELIEVER

STATEMENT OF FAITH

For thousand of years, the Jewish people had their own statement of faith which they called "The Thirteen Principles of Faith."   We have written a modified and “fulfilled” version of the Jewish principles, which are the fundamental expression of the faith of both believing Jews and Gentiles. 

1.  THE ONE TRUE GOD:  I believe in the One true God, who has revealed Himself as the Creator of the universe and of humanity.  He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His attributes and his titles are many: He is the eternal, infinite, self-existent, self-revealed “I am the God who always is” as his name יהוה (YHVH) demonstrates.   He is sovereign, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, as well as loving, gracious, good, merciful, faithful.  He is also the most Holy, set-apart from sinful humanity, yet He desires His people to be in relationship with Him.    (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10)

2.  GOD BREATHED SCRIPTURES: I believe the Bible, which consists of the Torah, the Writings of the Prophets, the Wisdom Sayings and New Covenant, to be inspired by the Spirit of YHVH through human agents.  All 40 “co-authors,” notably Moses and King David, many prophets and scribes, young and old, wrote a total of 66 books over a period of 2000 years.  All divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit. The whole Bible should also include the Brit Hadashah, which is the New Covenant that was prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah.  These Holy Scriptures are the foundation of my learning and the source of YHVH’s wisdom.    (2 Timothy 3:15-16, Jeremiah 31:31-33)

3.  MAN’S FALL AND REDEMPTION:  I believe that when YHVH created humanity in his image, male and female, on the sixth day, He created them good, pure and perfect.  Yet, through one act of disobedience by Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, a separation occurred between YHVH and the rest of humanity.  The result of this separation is the opposite of perfection: sin, death came into the world.  By voluntary transgression, mankind fell and his only hope of redemption is in Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of YHVY.  Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Messiah Yeshua will be given new life.  (Genesis 1:26-31, Genesis 3:1-7, Romans 5:12-21, Romans 3:23, 1 Corinthians 15:22)

4.  THE DIVINITY OF YESHUA HAMASHIACH:  I believe Yeshua of Nazareth, called Jesus by many, born of the Holy Spirit and of a Jewish virgin, the seed of King David, is the awaited Messiah, the Anointed One, whom the prophets have made known to the people of Israel.  His Hebrew name Yeshua means “Salvation.”  By believing and trusting in Yeshua, the Anointed One, his death and resurrection, his promise of eternal life, we are saved.  When Yeshua comes back, he will restore all things. I believe Yeshua is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No one else can get through to the Father except through Yeshua. He is the Mediator between YHVH and humanity.   (Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Acts 3:18-22, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Isaiah 53:5, Hosea 6:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:10, 1 Thessalonians 4:14, Romans 10:9, John 3:16, Acts 3:21, John 14:6, Matthew 28:19)

6.  THE HOLY SPIRIT:  I believe I am saved through faith in Yeshua HaMashiach and reborn through immersion of the Holy Spirit. I believe that mikvah or immersion in water should be observed as commanded in the Scriptures, by all who have really repented and in their hearts they have truly believed on Yeshua as Savior and Lord. The mikvah is an outward symbol of cleansing, while the heart has been sprinkled with the blood of Yeshua as an inner cleansing; thus declaring Yeshua to the world, being reborn to walk into the newness of life.  With this supernatural rebirth, I am made alive spiritually, able to enter the heavenly realm. And I am made able to see and hear things of divine nature and to seek the things of precious and eternal value.  This evidence of my salvation is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit within me. The outward evidence of my rebirth to everyone else is a radical transformation to a life of holiness and righteousness. With the immersion in Spirit and fire comes the endowment of power for a life of service, the bestowment of the Gifts and their uses in the world of the ministry.    (John 3:5, Acts 10:44-48; Romans 6:2-4, Acts 20:21, Hebrews 10:22, Acts 11:14-16, Acts 15:7-9, Luke 24:49, 1 Corinthians 12)

7.  THE COMMANDMENTS, THE SHABBATS AND FESTIVALS: I observe the commandments of the Torah as was given to Moses which sums up as follows: Love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbors as yourself.  I believe the commandments are instructions for a life of holiness.  I observe the Sabbaths and His Appointed Times, which are the Festivals described in Leviticus 23, in order to understand their connections to the history and prophecies of the ages. I believe that Jewish followers of Yeshua are called to maintain their Jewish, Biblical heritage and remain a part of their people Israel, as well as the universal Body of Believers.   (Genesis 1:14, Exodus 12:14, Leviticus 23:4, Isaiah 66:23, John 5:1, John 12:20, I Corinthians 5:8, I John 5:3-4, Zechariah 14:16-19)

8.  THE BODY OF MESSIAH: I believe the congregation of believers, (AKA the church), the body of Yeshua, is the habitation of YHVH and His Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission.  Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the body of Messiah. I believe in my duty to uplift the fellowship of believers and to refrain from harming my brothers and sisters in Messiah.  I believe in the unity of all believers in Yeshua, both Jews and Gentiles, the One New Humanity.  I do NOT believe in the doctrine of replacement theology in which YHVH has replaced Israel with the church.  YHVH has not rejected his people Israel.  I believe that Gentile believers in Yeshua are grafted into the Olive Tree of Roman 11, symbolic of Israel; therefore, making them fellow citizens and full-participants with the Commonwealth of Israel.  I believe the final plan for the “Body of Yeshua” is to bring remnant of both faithful Jewish and Gentile believers back together and unite them into one holy people under one Shepherd, namely Yeshua HaMashiach; thus completing the tearing down of the wall of partition. This is a necessary part of the restoration of all things spoken by the prophets.  I believe the unity of Jews and Gentiles makes for a more effective witness to the world when preaching the gospel to all people.     (Hosea 1:10, 2:23, Romans 9:25-26, John 17:17-23, Romans 11, Ephesians 1:22-23, Ephesians 2:13-22, Acts 3:21, Philippians 4:8, Mark 16:15, Ephesians 4:11-13, Acts 3:21)

9.  ISRAEL: I believe in YHVH’s irrevocable choice of the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as His chosen people; the Land of Israel as His special place; the City of Jerusalem as His royal capital; the family of David as His royal dynasty.  Israel is the name given to Jacob during his encounter with the Angel of YHVH at the river Jabbok.  Israel became the father of twelve tribes.  His name means “Prince with YHVH” and one who “has power with YHVH.”  Israel has struggled and overcame, therefore his destiny is interwoven with the Eternal One.  After the Exodus, the tribes of Israel later named their land Israel. Since that time, the land of Israel has become the center of all prophetic activities and is aptly named YHVH’s prophetic time clock.  I believe YHVH will bring about many pivotal prophecies to fulfillment in the land of Israel, before and after the second coming of Yeshua HaMashiach.     (Romans 11:29, Genesis 12:1-3, 13:14-17, 17:9-14, 22:15-18, Exodus 19:5, Deuteronomy 4:5-8, 6:4, 12:5, 11, 21, 14:23, 24, 2 Samuel 7:13, 25-29, 1 Kings 2:45, Psalms 76:1, 2, 102:18-22, Isaiah 2:1-3, Jeremiah 31:35-37, Ezekiel 34:20-24; 37:21-28, Romans 9:1-13, 11:1-6)

10.  THE TWO COMINGS: I believe Yeshua HaMashiach came the first time about 2,000 years ago as "Messiah Ben Joseph," to become the suffering servant depicted by the prophet Isaiah (52-53), to die for our sins as our sacrificial Lamb, once and for all, as was foreshadowed in the pattern of the Tabernacle and festival of Passover.  He is now interceding for us as our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.  I believe He will return a second time to set up his glorious kingdom and rule the world as the Prince of Peace, as the King of Kings, as "Messiah Ben David.”   (Zechariah 9:9, Isaiah 52:13-15, Isaiah 53:5, Isaiah 53:12, Psalm 22:1, 14-18, 24, 26-31, Daniel 7:13)

11.  THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD & THE BLESSED HOPE: I believe that at the end of this present age, ruled by the prince of darkness, there will be a resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Yeshua and a translation (new bodies) with those who are alive and remain at the coming of Yeshua. This is the blessed hope of the believers in Yeshua HaMashiach.  We will then begin the millennial age under the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings, Yeshua HaMashiach.  Scriptures here.  (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, Romans 8:23, Titus 2:13, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

12.  THE KINGDOM OF YHVH: I believe the kingdom of YHVH, also called the Kingdom of Heaven, has several aspects. First, it is the throne of YHVH, where He reigns supreme over all of creation, surrounded by myriads of spirituals beings.  Secondly, this kingdom exists simultaneously in the natural (physical) world, in the hearts of all faithful believers.  It requires true repentance and renewal, to prepare for the next kingdom, the millennial reign of Yeshua HaMashiach, who will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  This millennial reign on Earth is the Scriptural promise and the world’s hope.  I believe the crowning achievement of all this preparation is the New Heaven and New Earth, a kingdom that will never be destroyed, one that is everlasting, wherein dwells righteousness and perfect harmony.    (Luke 17:21, John 18:36, Revelation 11:15, 2 Thessalonians 1:7, Revelation 19:11-16, Romans 11:26-27, Revelation 20:1-7, Daniel 2:44, 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21:1-4, Revelation 21:22)

13.  THE JUDGEMENTS OF YHVH: I believe the Creator is omniscient, He knows all the acts and thoughts of man and will therefore bring true and fair judgement to everyone.  I believe He will reward the righteous believers and that He protects and "passover" me when He sees the blood of Yeshua on me.  He will also judge the unrighteous and unrepentant.  I believe in the existence of the adversary HaSatan and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, and whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.  (Ecclesiastes 3:17, Colossians 3:25, Hebrews 6:10, Daniel 12:2, Matthew 16:27, Matthew 25:46, John 5:28-29, Luke 10:20, Daniel 7:10, Revelation 20:10-15)

And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Yeshua HaMashiach to all who believe. There is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Yeshua HaMashiach.

Romans 5:12-21 NLT
12When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. 18Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
20God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

YHVH IS ECHAD:  I believe the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the God of Israel, is ECHAD or אֶחָֽד. As we say in the Shema, "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE." YHVH is ECHAD, a unity of three beings in the Godhead: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. ECHAD is a unified oneness, or a composite unity of three beings.  And Yeshua is the Son who descended from Heaven, sent by the Father whose Presence is eternal and without form.  Yeshua is the Word made flesh who came to dwell among us about 2000 years ago.  Yeshua was with YHVH in the beginning and is the Aleph and the Tav, (the first and last letter of the Hebrew alphabet), the beginning and the end.  He died for our sins and rose three days later.  Forty days later, he ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us as our High Priest and Mediator in the Tabernacle of Heaven.  Ten days later, He sent the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to speak the truth and to testify about Him to His faithful ones on Earth.

I believe I am saved through faith in Yeshua HaMashiach and reborn through immersion of the Holy Spirit. I believe that mikvah or immersion in water should be observed as commanded in the Scriptures, by all who have really repented and in their hearts they have truly believed on Yeshua as Savior and Lord. The mikvah is an outward symbol of cleansing, while the heart has been sprinkled with the blood of Yeshua as an inner cleansing; thus declaring Yeshua to the world, being reborn to walk into the newness of life.  With this supernatural rebirth, I am made alive spiritually, able to enter the heavenly realm. And I am made able to see and hear things of divine nature and to seek the things of precious and eternal value.  This evidence of my salvation is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit within me. The outward evidence of my rebirth to everyone else is a radical transformation to a life of holiness and righteousness. With the immersion in Spirit and fire comes the endowment of power for a life of service, the bestowment of the Gifts and their uses in the world of the ministry.

There are varieties of effects, but the same YHVH who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
      For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
      For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But now YHVH has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable, whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But YHVH has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
      Now you are Messiah’s body, and individually members of it. And YHVH has appointed in the assembly, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healing, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts.

I observe the commandments of the Torah as was given to Moses which sums up as follows: Love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbors as yourself.  I believe the commandments are instructions for a life of holiness.  I observe the Sabbaths and His Appointed Times, which are the Festivals described in Leviticus 23, in order to understand their connections to the history and prophecies of the ages. I believe that Jewish followers of Yeshua are called to maintain their Jewish, Biblical heritage and remain a part of their people Israel, as well as the universal Body of Believers.

THE BODY OF MESSIAH

APPENDIX TO STATEMENT OF FAITH
THE 13 PRINCIPLES OF A MESSIANIC BELIEVER
PRINCIPLE NO.8


I believe the congregation of believers, (AKA the church), the body of Yeshua, is the habitation of YHVH and His Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission.  Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the body of Messiah. I believe in my duty to uplift the fellowship of believers and to refrain from harming my brothers and sisters in Messiah.

I believe in the unity of all believers in Yeshua, both Jews and Gentiles, the One New Humanity.  I do NOT believe in the doctrine of replacement theology in which YHVH has replaced Israel with the church.  YHVH has not rejected his people Israel.  I believe that Gentile believers in Yeshua are grafted into the Olive Tree of Roman 11, symbolic of Israel; therefore, making them fellow citizens and full-participants with the Commonwealth of Israel.  I believe the final plan for the “Body of Yeshua” is to bring remnant of both faithful Jewish and Gentile believers back together and unite them into one holy people under one Shepherd, namely Yeshua HaMashiach; thus completing the tearing down of the wall of partition. This is a necessary part of the restoration of all things spoken by the prophets.  I believe the unity of Jews and Gentiles makes for a more effective witness to the world when preaching the gospel to all people.

THE BODY OF MESSIAH:
Hosea 1-2, who was Hosea
Hosea was a prophet of the kingdom of Israel, just before its destruction in 722 BC. He called on Israel to repent its sins of apostasy, the worship of false gods, and warned of the coming judgment from YHVH if they did not repent. Hosea was commanded to take Gomer for a wife, a prostitute, as an example of Israel’s unfaithful relationship with YHVH.  Hosea prophesied of a future time when a people who where not his people would become a new people for YHVH.  This new people is the body of Messiah, also called the Bride, a congregation of believing Jews and Gentiles, the One New Humanity.

Hosea 1:10, 2:23 & Romans 9:25-26
I will call them “my people” who are not “my people;”
and I will call her “my loved one” who is not “my loved one,” and
In the very place where it was said to them,
“You are not my people,” there they will be called “children of the living YHVH.”

John 17:17-23

ROMANS 11
THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL
I ask then: Did YHVH reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. YHVH did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to YHVH against Israel: “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”a ? And what was YHVH’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.  ”So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

A SPIRIT OF STUPOR
What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened, as it is written:
“YHVH gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear to this very day.”  And David says: “May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and their backs be bent forever.”

SALVATION TO THE GENTILES, THE INGRAFTED BRANCHED
Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!
I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? If the part of the dough offered as first fruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

GRAFTED TO THE NATURAL OLIVE TREE
If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if YHVH did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of YHVH: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for YHVH is able to graft them in again. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

ALL ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED
I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written:
“The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for YHVH’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. Just as you who were at one time disobedient to YHVH have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy, as a result of YHVH’s mercy to you.   For YHVH has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

Ephesians 1:22-23;
And He (the Father) put all things in subjection under His (Yeshua’s) feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the congregation of believers, 23which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

RECONCILIATION OF JEWS AND GENTILES
But now in Yeshua HaMashiach you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Messiah. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to YHVH through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with YHVH’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Yeshua HaMashiach himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which YHVH lives by his Spirit.

Acts 3:21

ISRAEL

APPENDIX TO STATEMENT OF FAITH
THE 13 PRINCIPLES OF A MESSIANIC BELIEVER
PRINCIPLE NO. 9


I believe in YHVH’s irrevocable choice of the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as His chosen people; the Land of Israel as His special place; the City of Jerusalem as His royal capital; the family of David as His royal dynasty.  Israel is the name given to Jacob during his encounter with the Angel of YHVH at the river Jabbok.  Israel became the father of twelve tribes.  His name means “Prince with YHVH” and one who “has power with YHVH.”  Israel has struggled and overcame, therefore his destiny is interwoven with the Eternal One.  After the Exodus, the tribes of Israel later named their land Israel. Since that time, the land of Israel has become the center of all prophetic activities and is aptly named YHVH’s prophetic time clock.  I believe YHVH will bring about many pivotal prophecies to fulfillment in the land of Israel, before and after the second coming of Yeshua HaMashiach.

Solicitude for Israel
      I am telling the truth in Messiah, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.       But it is not as though the word of Elohim has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL BE NAMED.” That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of Eloahim, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. For this is the word of promise: “AT THIS TIME I WILL COME, AND SARAH SHALL HAVE A SON.” And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that Elohim’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls, it was said to her, “THE OLDER WILL SERVE THE YOUNGER.” 13Just as it is written, “JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED.”

The Remnant of Israel
I ask then: Did YHVH reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. Elohim did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to YHVH against Israel: “Adonai, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”a ? And what was Elohim’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

I believe Yeshua HaMashiach came the first time about 2,000 years ago as "Messiah Ben Joseph," to become the suffering servant depicted by the prophet Isaiah (52-53), to die for our sins as our sacrificial Lamb, once and for all, as was foreshadowed in the pattern of the Tabernacle and festival of Passover.  He is now interceding for us as our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.  I believe He will return a second time to set up his glorious kingdom and rule the world as the Prince of Peace, as the King of Kings, as "Messiah Ben David.”

Isaiah 52-53
The Rabbis and the wise men of ancient times wrote about two redeemers: One was named “Messiah Ben Joseph,” whose role was that of a suffering servant and another one named “Messiah Ben David,” a future king who will rule the world in peace.  The latter is well known among Jews, but many don’t recognize or understand the role of the Messiah as the suffering servant. Yeshua did not come the first time to take over as a King, but to die for our sins and live again that we might trust in Him and his promises of eternal life. There is a proper and perfect order to YHVH’s plan of redemption.

“Messiah Ben Joseph” is a fitting term because of the amazing connection between the lives of both Joseph and Yeshua. It is depicted in the pattern of their lives. Here are a few examples: Like Joseph, Yeshua’s birth was the direct intervention of YHVH. Joseph’s mother, Rachel had a hard time conceiving.  Both Joseph and Yeshua were both “beloved of the father.” Jacob loved Joseph more than his other sons. YHVH loved his Son Yeshua in a unique way. Joseph was a shepherd, Yeshua is called the “Good Shepherd.”  Joseph was anointed by his father with a coat of many colors, and Yeshua was anointed as Messiah Ben David.  Joseph saved the many people and his own family during a worldwide famine.  Yeshua is the savior of the world.  Joseph’s brothers envied and hated him and didn’t recognize him with his Egyptian dress.  Yeshua was envied and hated by the Jewish religious authorities and today the majority of Jews don’t recognize him as the Messiah because he is often depicted as a Gentile.  Joseph’s brothers conspired to have him killed, the chief priests conferred together to plan the death of Yeshua. Like Joseph, Yeshua’s brothers, his own Jewish people, don’t believe Him.  Both Joseph and Yeshua were cast into a pit.  Joseph’s brother Judah suggested the idea to have Joseph’s sold as a slave instead of killing him, thereby saving his life.  Yeshua is of the tribe of Judah, was sold for 30 pieces of silver and became the Redeemer. Joseph became a slave and a prisoner before he was exalted as a second in command to Pharaoh.  Yeshua took on the role of the suffering servant before he ascended to become exalted. There are many more parallel between Joseph and Yeshua, all together there are about 60 similar details in both lives.  Such possibilities for parallel lives are extremely rare, which make it obvious that all this is part of YHVH’s plan of redemption.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!  Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

    he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted.

I believe that at the end of this present age, ruled by the prince of darkness, there will be a resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Yeshua and a translation (new bodies) of those who are alive and remain at the coming of Yeshua. This is the blessed hope of the believers in Yeshua HaMashiach.  We will then begin the millennial age under the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings, Yeshua HaMashiach.

I believe the kingdom of YHVH, also called the Kingdom of Heaven, has several aspects. First, it is the throne of YHVH, where He reigns supreme over all of creation, surrounded by myriads of spirituals beings.  Secondly, this kingdom exists simultaneously in the natural (physical) world, in the hearts of all faithful believers.  It requires true repentance and renewal, to prepare for the next kingdom, the millennial reign of Yeshua HaMashiach, who will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  This millennial reign on Earth is the Scriptural promise and the world’s hope.  I believe the crowning achievement of all this preparation is the New Heaven and New Earth, a kingdom that will never be destroyed, one that is everlasting, wherein dwells righteousness and perfect harmony.

"In the time of those kings, the Elohim of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

I believe the Creator is omniscient, He knows all the acts and thoughts of man and will therefore bring true and fair judgement to everyone.  I believe He will reward the righteous believers and that He protects and "passover" me when He sees the blood of Yeshua on me.  He will also judge the unrighteous and unrepentant.  I believe in the existence of HaSatan (“the adversary” AKA the devil) and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, and whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

CULTS AND FALSE TEACHERS

Years ago, an article was posted on this website about Cults.  The article mainly addressed a particular group or sect that have been targeting Deaf communities. They are still around. Recently, something came up that forced us Messianic believers, to reconsider posting a revised version of the article again.  It is incredible how many people can be deceived, even those who are quite learned in Scriptures.

The previous article was written more out necessity than choice.  The subject of cults is still difficult to write about.  One reason the article was deleted from the website is because the definition of what constitutes a cult can be somewhat vague, often depending on the context and on the person who uses it.

This is from the dictionary and thesaurus from an Apple computer:

Believers in the body of Messiah consider the common definition of “cult” from most dictionaries pretty much “loose” or vague.  A Christian church or a Messianic congregation might be considered a cult by some, even though we who spiritually receptive to the message of the Gospel might strongly disagree.  For example, the family of a Jewish person who just converted to Christianity would call the church he joined a cult.  A young member of a religious sect would be considered “brainwashed” if he or she joined a different religion other than the one he/she grow up with.  Some people would even consider Messianic Judaism a cult.

Another reason the subject of cults is difficult to write about: the word “cult” does not appear in our Holy Scriptures, which we consider the source of all wisdom and guidance, although they have much to say about false teachers.   According to Wikipedia, the word "cult" was first used in the early 17th century, borrowed from the French language.  It is interesting to note that the word "culture" and “occult” was also derived from the same source.

Wikipedia also states, “By the late 1930s, the Christian counter cult movement began applying the term cult to what would formerly have been termed heresy.  This usage became mainstream by the 1960s, via the best-selling book, The Kingdom of the Cults,” published in 1965.  The author, Walter Martin listed the difference between most major religions, Eastern religions, New Age, Spiritism, Scientology, Theosophy, etc, including a few religions that describe themselves as a Christian denomination, such as Jehovah’s Witness and Mormonism.  Some of the differences are obvious, some are not.  For the sake of this article, we will focus on those who are not so obvious.

Today, there are essentially two major views in regard to cults, one is the Christian view, often called the “theological” perspective and another one is the non-Christian or secular view, also called the “sociological” perspective.

One reason we posted our “Statement of Faith” on our website is to be clear as to what we believe, so that people who surf and find us can believe the Holy Spirit speaks through us and therefore, they will believe us.  Anything else that contrary to the Scriptures or to our Statement constitutes “heresy” or false teaching.  If you meet someone who claims to be one of us, a Messianic believer who states something contrary to our belief, please contact us.  We will investigate the matter.

One of the most important statements, the one fact that separates us from false teachers or other cults is that we believe Yeshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus) is the Son of YHVH (the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), who was resurrected and ascended to Heaven.  This is the one fact that will pass the test of a true believer every time.  Let’s take a look at these Scriptures:

1John 2:22   Who is the liar? It is the person who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah (Christ/Anointed). Such a person is the anti-Messiah--he denies the Father and the Son. 

1 John 4:3   but every spirit that does not acknowledge Yeshua is not from YHVY. In fact this is the spirit of the anti-Messiah. 

2 John 1:7  For many deceivers have gone out into the world, people who do not acknowledge Yeshua the Messiah's coming as a human being.  Such a person is a deceiver and an anti-Messiah.

These are very strong words but it’s the truth.  They are not our own words but YHVH’s inspired sayings.  Many religions accept Yeshua as an important figure, as a great teacher or prophet, but not as the Son of the Father in Heaven sent for die for our sins. And Yeshua did warn us there will be many false prophets, false teachers, false religions and cults in these last days. Therefore, we should not be surprised when it happens.

The other point of view regarding cult is the sociological perspective.  Within the body of Messiah, there are some leaders who display “cultish” behavior or tendencies, even though they might speak the truth of Scriptures. Just because sociology is a secular field does not mean we should dismiss it.  There is value in learning how to observe human behavior and learn how to avoid the pitfalls. Listed below are 8 warning signs of leaders or groups who display “cultish” behavior or tendencies you should look for:
  1. A cult leader has no tolerance for questions or free exchange of ideas, and doesn’t encourage critical thinking.  He insists on being right and others are wrong.  His followers have “programmed” answers.  There is a difference between believing the Word of YHVH and believing blindly.  The Hebrew word for believe also means to trust.  Believers have confidence that YHVH will keep His promises and fulfill His prophecies.  We increase that confidence by studying His Scriptures independently of our leaders or teachers.  With the vast resources of the internet, it has become easier.  (On the menu above you will find links to free online Bible study tools.)
  2. A cult leader will forbid his followers in associating with others outside of the group.  He feeds the people into believing that there is no reason to leave.  I have witnessed at least on three occasions how members of a certain cult were invited to a Bible study group, wanted to go and then being told to turn around and not attend our studies. In one instance, they were right outside my door debating whether or not to come in and in the end, finally left.  Members of such cult will often feel isolated and hard to reach.
  3. A cult leader also feeds on fear, warning his followers of doomsday and conspiracies, etc.  Although our Scriptures are full of warnings and judgements to happen before the Millennial reign of peace, we are taught to look up and see our redemption, not to fear.  We trust in His promises, looking toward a bright future with eternal life.  Members of a cult, by contrast, often feel isolated from their families and long time friends and are afraid of what will come.
  4.  you have heard warnings about a particular leader, group or church, then it is most likely true.  You should investigate and pay attention to any grievances or stories of abuse about a particular leader or member of a cult.  For example, there are many people who have left a certain cult after finding the truth.  Seek the people who have left to find answers to what happened.  Listen to their grievances and stories of abuse.
  5. The followers of a cult often feel they are not “good enough” no matter what they do.  A true leader of Messiah should be thankful to others for volunteering or helping in a church activities.  Showing appreciation is the mark of a genuine leader, qualities that the faithful of Messiah should seek to emulate.
  6. Most followers of a cult have lost their sense of humor.  They seem more gloomy and fearful.  In contrast, a true follower of Messiah will often feel joy, which comes from knowing and understanding that we have been set free by the blood of Yeshua.  Worship is a mean to bring this joy to the surface.
  7. The leader of a cult will not disclose their finances to their members.  Records of income and expenses are kept private or hidden.
  8. Members of a cult often depends excessively on their leader for problem solving.
So far we have studied the theological perspective of false doctrines.  Secondly, we have learned the more sociological and psychological perspective of cults. However, during these last 10-20 years, the term “spiritual abuse” have cropped up more frequently. This term has become popular since 1991 when the breakthrough book was first published, “The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse: Recognizing and Escaping Spiritual Manipulation and False Spiritual Authority Within the Church” written by two authors, David Johnson and Jeff VanVonderen.

There are some surprising similarities between cultish behavior of leaders and perpetrators of “spiritual abuse.” However, spiritual abuse is somewhat more complex and subtle.  That is another topic for another day, one in which we will not dwell here. Therefore, we will list some resources:

We all should consider all the signs because of the growing and disturbing reports of abuses within certain churches. There are leaders have taken advantage of their Deaf members, so much so that these members have turned away from the faith.  It is a sad state of affairs when people don’t follow YHVH’s most important command to love each other and not do harm to each other.

I have been asked frequently by my friends how to turn away certain people who came at their doors inviting them to their “hall” and giving away books or brochures.  The one thing that stops them from coming back: I have told them that I disagree with their belief and doctrines.  I also never accept their materials.  I have heard stories of people trying to persuade these cult members to change.  I would not recommend it.  In most cases, it will likely not produce any results.  It is best to meet them on your terms, not when they show up uninvited at your door, when you are unprepared.

Remember Yeshua’s saying in Matthew 10:16:
 "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

Also Matthew 7:15-16
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them.”

The adversary, Satan is referred as an ancient snake.  So why would Yeshua want us to be as shrewd as snakes?  Because when we study and understand the mind of a deceiver, a false teacher, knowing their fruits (their actions and their behaviors) then you would instantly recognize such a person when you meet them.  You will see through their disguise as sheep and recognize them as wolves.  Yeshua does not want us to emulate them but to recognize them and continue on our quest to stay holy and innocent like doves.

We must realize that false teachers and abusive leaders often reject part of YHVH’s instructions because of pride and stubbornness.  In 1 Samuel 15:23, the prophet Samuel recognized this behavior in King Saul and so warned him:

“Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of Adonai, he has rejected you as king."
